Review: The House in the Cerulean Sea - TJ Klune
The Book in 3 Sentences
Linus Baker lives a pretty mundane life, he lives alone with his cat, he has no partner and his job is the same job he's had for the last 17 years. One day Linus is given a new task at work, he must go to the orphanage on Marsyas island to conduct an investigation. Linus has investigated many orphanages but none such as this. What Linus discovers on Marysas Island is something he's never encountered before and what he discovers there changes his life forever.
How I Discovered It
This one was super popular on Instagram and it's without a doubt I bought it because of the amount of times I saw it floating across my feed. - Influencer marketing works!
My Thoughts
I completely fell in love with this book from the start. At the very beginning I had strong Harry Potter vibes, magical people and beings living among us, governing bodies trying to control them, I was hooked. Reading through it I felt like I was watching an animated movie, the scenes and characters easily conjured into the theatre of my mind making me laugh and cry at multiple times. There are definitely a lot of feels in this one!
The book teaches about tolerance and discrimination, the importance of self reflection and above all else, finding self confidence. Each lesson taught subtly and effectively without having them screamed at you like some of the other books out there trying to teach the same lessons.
The House in the Cerulean Sea also told a beautiful story of a lonely man who found love and family in the most unexpected place and how it's never too late to make a change to live the life you want!
I absolutely adored it!
